The 3rd Stage Starts in Urmia
The 3rd Stage of the 34th Iran (Azerbaijan) International Cycling Tour started in the Ayalat Square, Urmia, at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 4, 2019. The race will cover a distance of 163 km; with 2 Sprint points and two Mountain climbs. The 72 riders know very well that the race today is very hard to compete. The road passes through the flat terrain around the city, Urmia, and then it runs through the Urmia Lake to the so-called ISLAND. The road continues toward Tabriz. The Finish line is set on top of the Einali Mountain, in Tabriz.
The riders have to set their mind on the 3200- meter- path at the end of the race. The steep slope of the path runs upward, %8 steep, to the top of the mountain, where an old building (originally built during the reign of the Mongolian Ghazan Khan or as the Westerners refer to him as Casanus (1271–1304), now serving as the Tea-House and an artificial pond of water, constructed in 2014. The riders have to tackle the steep slope on the cobblestones of the pavement. The final climb of the race in the 3rd stage is set as a Hors Category.
Hard for the riders to climb, the cobblestoned pavement on Einali Mountain in Tabriz invites hundreds of the picnickers every Friday to enjoy the weekly vacation on the mountain. The process of the race will be a spectacular watch for the audience. Right now (12:00 Local time) the people are walking upward the pavement to get ready to watch a unique race today.
